My Life - February 2016 - Izzy

March 03, 2016  •  2 Comments

So we adopted a dog.  She's 4 and was rescued from Israel.  We don't know her history.  Or her breed.  Or what language she understands.  She is completely loved by our girls and has fit right in here.  As any rescue, she has some issues.  She's very skittish and has a fear of many things including sudden movements, wooden floors and my truck just to name a few.  She is very docile and a complete suck for the most part, but has shown herself to be a bit feisty and nearly ate one of my best friends.  Sorry.  We are working on that.

Her name was Phoebe when we adopted her and my eldest has hung onto that name as her own name for her and the rest of us call her Izzy as an ode to Israel, an idea thrown out by a close friend and one we loved.  Thanks!

When you meet her, move slowly and let her come to you.  If she looks or acts scared, back off and don't worry she will come around.

Meet Izzy.

My Life - January 2016 - Portraits

It's a whole new year and I have decided not to embark on a major project either daily or weekly.  I have to say that with the million other things going on in my day it was often difficult to remember to pick up a camera and snap a daily image.  Weekly was manageable, but this year I am focusing on some photography goals.  Anyone who learns and practices a craft knows that you are never at the end of your learning.  There is always more to know and improve on.  If there isn't, you are some kind of rare genius I have never met.

I am exploring portraits and light.  I really love a good head shot with interesting facial expressions and light.  I happen to have one always willing subject and one sometimes willing subject in my home and if I can guarantee a short shoot, all the better.  I also love black and white images.  These are some of my favourites from January.

Everyday Beauty - Week 49-End

Well, 2015 is over and what a year it was!  I started and kind of completed a 365.  I have to say that the wave of elf pics towards the end of the year tells me I need to find some more inspiration when I am tired.  There are some pictures missing, no idea where they are but my numbers don't hit 365.  Oh well, it was a good effort.

We ended 2015 with our cousins from Australia and the kids all had a blast.  And their elf traveled all the way from Brisbane to join Jingles and Steve on a few nights of adventure.  We will miss you Charlie.

I think I will continue shooting daily but attempt a different approach to the blog.  Will see in a couple of weeks what that evolves into.  Definitely an image a day makes for a neat compilation for a photobook.  Happy I did it, need a plan for 2016.

Here is the last wave.  Hello 2016!

Everyday Beauty-Week 48-Elves

Well, it's nothing but elves here.  I've got nothing else.  This is the crazy family hectic time of year where all we do is bake and craft and move elves around.  I am thinking that at 365 is ambitious and not really for me.  I think the 52 weeker was more my speed.  It's funny that the only pictures are of the elves and that is solely to document them for my kids.  And some of those images are taken at 10pm as I am about to move them, er, I mean they are ready to fly back to the North Pole.

We did go to the town tree lighting which was really fun and our Australian family arrived as well which is awesome!  The cousins love each other and it's so fun to see them together.

Okay, boring but here we go.

Everyday Beauty - Weeks 46 & 47 - Christmas Prep

December 02, 2015  •  Leave a Comment

Ah, it seems I am forever going to be a week or two behind.  We are winding down busy season in the photography world, but winding it up in the Christmas world.  We are heading into Christmas prep and fun and that means a tree and crafts and snow (and then poof, that's gone) and snow pants and all things cozy.

We started these two weeks with some crafting.  Making ornaments and such can take a long time.  And we ended with getting a tree at a local tree farm.  Now all we need is some snow.  We had some for a day.  Fleeting, but it didn't stop everyone from making the most of the wee bit we had.

Glitter balls - this is Tuesday.  Apparently there is no Monday.

A fairy tea party.

Snow fight with fake snow.

Hanging out in a box.  Why not?

New friends

Tying shoes
